This visit aims to see firsthand the progress of the development of The Mandalika which is proclaimed by the Government as a Sports Tourism Destination or better known as “Sport Tourism Destination”.

During this visit, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy and his entourage were welcomed by the Governor of NTB Zulkieflimansyah along with the Forkopimda NTB officials and ITDC President Director Abdulbar M. Mansoer and ITDC Technical and HR Director Taufik Hidayat.

In addition to holding talks and discussions about the progress of the construction of The Mandalika, the Menparekraf also visited the Nurul Bilad Mosque, the planned construction site for the Creative Hub, Kuta Beach Park, and the Mandalika Bazaar.

Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno said, “The President’s directive is for MotoGP 2021 to be ready and able to take place. All infrastructure must be completed on time and this year’s event will be held by implementing a strict COVID-19 protocol. We have to go all out for this event. “

In addition, Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno also tried triathlon trials in The Mandalika area by carrying out sports activities in the form of swimming at Tanjung Aan Beach along 500 meters, followed by cycling along 7 km to West Gate The Mandalika, and running 2.5 km to Kuta Beach Park.

“We just finished a triathlon trial at The Mandalika. This is part of our sports tourism preparations to start using The Mandalika as DPSP which we focus on for quick wins, namely Sport Tourism.

Today we also prove, thanks to the support of ITDC and the sports community, that The Mandalika is a suitable place for sport tourism. Because I have tried swimming, cycling and running and feel the infrastructure here is very supportive, ”explained Sandiaga Uno.

ITDC President Director Abdulbar M. Mansoer said, “Thank you, the Minister for visiting and conducting triathlon trials in The Mandalika area. Our area is very complete, can be prepared for any sport and ready to become a leading sport tourism destination in Indonesia. Apart from MotoGP and WSBK, the landscape of The Mandalika is suitable for sports to enjoy nature where there are 5 beaches, hills and mountains that can be used for trekking and paragliding activities.

Kemenpora has also agreed to build the Mandalika Sports Complex. So, we are very welcome if Kemenparekraf and other sports communities want to take advantage of our facilities. “

Sandiaga Uno added, “I hope the community can coordinate and collaborate with ITDC to start arranging events throughout the year ahead of MotoGP so that they can increase enthusiasm and motivation and so that the MotoGP echo can be felt throughout the archipelago. In the future, there will be events that we will try to collaborate with to become our Calendar of Events and of course still apply the strict COVID-19 protocol. “

This year there are two international sports events that have entered the Prov. NTB is the MotoGP / IndonesianGP motorbike race and the L’Etape international bicycle race which is part of the Tour de France.
