President Joko Widodo received the Secretary General (Secretary General) of ASEAN Dato’ Lim Jock Hoi and his delegation at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Friday, 30 December 2022. “The most visible and most beneficial support is Indonesia’s contribution to the development of the new ASEAN Secretariat,” said the Foreign Minister.

The construction of the new secretariat building, continued Retno, is expected to improve the performance of the ASEAN secretariat. “ASEAN meetings can also be held in Jakarta, at the ASEAN Secretariat Building,” said the Foreign Minister.

At the meeting, continued the Minister of Foreign Affairs, ASEAN Secretary General Dato’ Lim Jock Hoi also expressed confidence that Indonesia could play a good role as Chair of ASEAN next year. The theme for Indonesia’s chairmanship for next year, “Epicentrum of Growth”, is also considered appropriate to be the focus of discussion.

“The Secretary General of ASEAN conveyed that economic development in each ASEAN country is quite promising.

Furthermore, the Foreign Minister explained that today Dato’ Lim Jock Hoi officially ended his duties as Secretary General of ASEAN. In January, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato’ Lim Jock Hoi will return to Indonesia to hand over the position to the new Secretary General of ASEAN.

“Dato’ Lim Jock Hoi will leave Indonesia today to end his duties as ASEAN Secretary General and will return again in early January to hand over his position as secretary general to the new ASEAN Secretary General who comes from Cambodia,” said the Foreign Minister.

Accompanying the President in the meeting was Minister of State Secretary Pratikno.
