President Jokowi Welcomes PM Anwar Ibrahim’s Official Visit to the Bogor Palace

President Joko Widodo welcomed the official visit of Malaysian Prime Minister (PM), Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, on Monday, January 9, 2023. This visit was PM Anwar Ibrahim’s first official visit since being sworn in on November 24, 2022 then.

PM Anwar Ibrahim arrived at the Bogor Palace at around 10.00 WIB and was immediately greeted by President Joko Widodo. The arrival of the Malaysian Head of Government was accompanied by Indonesian troops, cavalry, and the presidential security guard (Paspampres).

The welcoming procession was then followed by an official welcoming ceremony with the playing of the national anthems of the two countries and accompanied by the sound of cannons 19 times. After the cannon shots were over, the two leaders then conducted an honor guard inspection.

The two leaders then introduced the delegations from each country who also attended the ceremony. The Indonesian delegation who attended were Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto, Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah, Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir, Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia, Head of IKN Authority Bambang Susantono, Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Hermono, and Director General for Asia Pacific and Africa Abdul Kadir Jailani.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian delegation who attended were Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Dato’ Seri Diraja Zambry Abd Kadir, Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, and Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Dato’ Sri Amran Mohamed Zin.

After introducing their respective delegations, President Jokowi then invited PM Anwar to take a group photo and sign the guest book in the Lotus Room, Bogor Palace. After that, the event continued with the planting of the Merawan Tree (Hopea odorata) jointly by President Jokowi and PM Anwar.

After planting the trees, the President invited PM Anwar to tour the Bogor Botanical Gardens to see the collection of trees that were there. Afterwards, President Jokowi and PM Anwar Ibrahim held talks on the veranda of the Bogor Palace.

After the conversation, the two country leaders then headed to the Lotus Room to witness the submission of the letter of intent (LoI) from the Malaysian government to Indonesia in participating in the IKN development.

Afterwards, the two leaders conducted a joint press statement. The series of official visits ended with an official lunch in the Garuda Room.
