GIN – To date, the spread of COVID-19 cases of the Omicron variant has spread to 150 countries in the world, most of which have infected various developed countries until they reach their peak and are higher than the previous wave, namely the Delta variant. This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan in his statement at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, on Monday, January 10, 2022, after attending a limited meeting chaired by President Joko Widodo.

“This increase also directly increases hospital care, especially in the United States and Australia, in the UK and in Europe. Another increasing trend is in India, the Philippines, and Japan, but there is a significant decrease in cases in South Africa,” said Coordinating Minister Marves.

Luhut said that President Joko Widodo appealed to the public not to travel abroad in the next few weeks to prevent the spread of the corona virus. Luhut said confirmed cases of PPLN dominated the proportion of daily cases in Indonesia, causing an increase in active cases and patient care in Java-Bali.

“On January 9, for example in Jakarta, of the 393 cases that occurred, almost 300 of them were caused by travelers from abroad. So once again, we ask our friends to refrain from going on trips abroad. unless it’s very, very important,” said the Coordinating Minister for Marves.

Furthermore, the Coordinating Minister for Marves said that previously the government had given special attention since the last Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holidays regarding the PPLN policy which could lead to transmission of the Omicron variant.

“Yesterday, the evidence for this traveler has returned to bring many problems regarding this Omicron. The tightening of entrance steps will continue to be maintained to prevent the entry of the Omicron variant which will spread widely in the community,” he said.

On the same occasion, Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin explained, the positive case rate or Covid-19 positivity rate for foreign arrivals in the country reached 13 percent, while the positive case rate for local transmission reached 0.2 percent.

“So the positivity rate of arrivals from abroad is 65 times higher than the positivity rate of local transmissions. This strengthens our hypothesis that most of the positive cases currently occurring are caused by overseas arrivals,” said the Minister of Health.
